Dr. Diego J. Palao

Dr Palao is a physician specialized in Psychiatry, with wide experience in mental disorders of adults.

He is the Executive Director of the Mental Health Service of the Corporació Sanitària Universitària Parc Taulí de Sabadell (Barcelona), which coordinates most of the services specialized in mental health of the area del Vallès Occidental Est, with 450.000 inhabitants.

Diego completed his training in psychiatry in the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona and graduated in 1993. Since that time he has carry on an intensive clinical activity linked to the responsibility in the coordination of integral services of psychiatry.

Diego has chaired and participated in diverse research projects (schizophrenia, psychiatric epidemiology in primary attention and psychopharmacology (the results have been published or presented as doctoral dissertations. At the present time these lines of research develop within the frame of the Fundación Instituto Universitario Parc Taulí de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, where it has also been constituted the Observatorio de Salud Mental de Catalunya.

Diego has been Associate Professor of the Universidat Autònoma de Barcelona in the basic training of Psychologists during five years. A result of this participation is Diego’s contribution to the recently published Manual de Psicopatología General.

He participates in the Advisory Board of the Pla Director de Salut i Adiccions de Catalunya, and has collaborated with the W.H.O. European Mental Health Program.

Starting in June, 2009 Diego is President of the Societat Catalana de Psiquiatria i Salut Mental, a scientific society which groups more than 400 psychiatrists of Catalunya.
